Teen arrested over Paphos cat killing

Police in Paphos are investigating a cat killing after a post-mortem examination found 13 firearm pellets in the animal, with an 18-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the case.

Paphos CID is investigating the killing of an animal, as well as suspected conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour and a felony, illegal possession and transportation of a firearm and explosives, and discharging a firearm in a residential area.

On Sunday, 4 October 2026, a 56-year-old man reported to police that he had found his cat dead a short distance from his home.

Members of the police animal unit and Paphos Central Police Station attended the scene the same day to carry out examinations.

Post-mortem finds 13 firearm pellets

A post-mortem examination was carried out on the animal on Monday and established that it had been struck by 13 firearm pellets.

As part of the investigation into the Paphos cat killing, police obtained a court warrant for the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect.

The teenager was arrested on Monday, while a search of his home resulted in a number of items being located and seized as evidence.

Paphos CID is continuing its investigation into the cat killing.
