Customs officers at Paphos Airport seized 5,800 cigarettes from two Israeli passengers following an assessment of information on September 21, 2026.
The cigarettes were found in the passengers’ luggage and did not carry the required health warning in Greek and Turkish, security feature or unique traceability code, indicating that they were duty-unpaid tobacco products.
Two passengers arrested
A total of 19 cartons, each containing 200 cigarettes, were found in the luggage of one passenger, while 10 cartons of 200 cigarettes were found in the luggage of the second.
The two women were arrested for offences detected in the act, while their luggage and its contents were seized.
They were later released after their requests for an out-of-court settlement were accepted.
The first passenger paid €1,140, while the second paid €600 to settle the cases.
The seized cigarettes will be destroyed in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
