Electricity subsidy for vulnerable households to be funded by consumers

Date:

The cost of the subsidy will be covered by the public service obligation fee paid by all consumers – the Energy Minister’s decree detailing the specifics is expected soon.

The expense for extending the support measure of special residential tariffs, which will benefit low-income pensioners and single-parent families, along with the extension of commercial usage tariffs, will be covered by the public service obligation fee that all consumers pay.

Speaking on public radio, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) spokesperson, Ms. Christina Papadopoulou, noted that the Energy Minister’s decree, which will include all details on expanding the list of eligible residential tariffs, is anticipated soon.

Ms. Papadopoulou explained that to qualify for the plan, which offers around a 20% reduction in electricity rates, eligible households must complete an application and submit it to the EAC. She clarified that this specific subsidy will be in effect until December 2025.
