Heavy rain hit several areas of Cyprus; yellow warning remains in force

Strong weather conditions are affecting several areas of Cyprus, with heavy rain and thunderstorms reported across the island.

A yellow weather warning issued by the Department of Meteorology remains in force from 9pm on Thursday until 5pm today, Friday, September 18.

The weather warning concerns isolated severe thunderstorms expected to initially affect the western half of the island before spreading to other areas.

Rainfall rates up to 55mm per hour

According to the Department of Meteorology, rainfall intensity is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimetres per hour.

Residents and motorists are advised to remain alert as conditions may change rapidly, particularly in areas affected by thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
