The trial of Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos, who is currently suspended from his duties, resumes on Thursday, September 10, before the Permanent Criminal Court in Paphos.
The previous scheduled hearing did not take place after the prosecution was unable to secure the presence of additional witnesses. The case was subsequently scheduled to resume today.
Proceedings held behind closed doors
The hearing is being conducted behind closed doors, following a court decision accepting a request by the prosecution for the proceedings to take place without members of the public present.
The prosecution is represented until the conclusion of proceedings by Senior Counsel of the Republic, Micaella Pashiardi.
Five charges
Phedon Phedonos faces five charges relating to rape, indecent assault against a woman, indecent assault against a woman by another act, assault causing actual bodily harm, and administering a drug or other substance capable of causing sedation or neutralising a person’s power of resistance.
Phedonos has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The case remains before the court and is ongoing.
