The Cyprus-Greece-Egypt summit is taking place today in El Alamein, with President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides joining Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The summit will begin at 1 pm, with the three leaders expected to make statements to the media following its conclusion.
The discussions will focus on critical geopolitical developments in the region and ways to further strengthen trilateral relations.
Before the summit, President Christodoulides will hold a bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart.
Regional security and cooperation
As part of his visit, President Christodoulides will also attend, as President el-Sisi’s guest of honour, the opening ceremony of the El Alamein International Airshow.
Christodoulides has previously said that the three countries can, “through a positive approach”, help create conditions for security and cooperation in a region of particular geostrategic importance.
The summit is also expected to address the Mecca agreement signed on August 7 between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the meeting is taking place at a particularly important juncture for the wider region.
He stressed that the broader geopolitical developments further highlight the importance of the longstanding cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt, as well as close coordination through regional cooperation frameworks, with particular importance placed on the Cyprus-Greece-Egypt trilateral partnership.
Strategic partnership with Egypt
Letymbiotis said the trilateral framework has become an important mechanism for regional coordination and cooperation, making use of the geographical position of the three countries, Cyprus and Greece’s membership of the European Union, and Egypt’s particularly important role in the Arab world and the wider region.
Regarding Cyprus-Egypt relations, he said they are based on longstanding historical and political ties and have expanded and deepened significantly in recent years, with the relationship now institutionally upgraded to the level of a Strategic Partnership.
Cooperation between the two countries covers a wide range of areas, with particular emphasis on energy, security and the economy, as well as close political and diplomatic coordination on regional and international developments.

President Christodoulides will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis and government officials.
