Israeli strikes in a city in southern Lebanon killed 11 people early on Monday, including two children and two medical workers, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.
Israel has intensified its bombardment of southern Lebanon in recent days despite a ceasefire announced in June aimed at ending fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah. At least seven people were killed in Israeli strikes on Sunday.
Residential building hit
Shortly after midnight, Israeli warplanes struck a residential building in Kfar Rouman in southern Lebanon, killing nine people, including two children, and injuring five others, the National News Agency reported.
A separate Israeli drone strike on a civilian vehicle in the city killed two medical workers who were inside the car, the agency added.
The strikes were carried out without an evacuation warning being issued by the Israeli military online.
The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately respond to Reuters’ questions about the strikes, including whether they were aware of the presence of medical workers and children at the locations and why no evacuation warning had been issued.
Evacuation warning issued later
Shortly after 2 am local time, which is also Cyprus time, an Israeli military spokesperson issued a separate evacuation warning for areas around a building in another southern Lebanese city.
The spokesperson said Hezbollah facilities in the area would be targeted.
Violence continues despite ceasefire
Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed more than 4,300 people since Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel on 2 March, two days after US-Israeli strikes on Iran began, triggering an Israeli air and ground offensive.
Violence dropped sharply following the ceasefire, but Israeli troops, which control parts of southern Lebanon, continue to demolish villages in what they have unilaterally established as a security zone.
Israeli forces also continue to carry out strikes both inside the zone and further north, usually without issuing evacuation warnings for the areas being targeted.
