Cyprus weather will remain mostly clear at first on Friday, but locally increased cloud will develop after midday, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains, inland areas and the east.
Hail is possible during thunderstorms, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Winds will initially be variable and light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly. They will locally strengthen to 5 Beaufort in windward areas during the afternoon.
The sea will be slightly rough at times.
Temperatures will reach 39°C inland, around 32°C on the western and southwestern coasts, around 34°C on other coastal areas and 30°C in the highest mountains.
Saturday brings widespread storms
Tonight, locally increased cloud will develop at intervals and may produce isolated showers. Winds will become downslope and light at 3 Beaufort.
Temperatures will fall to 21°C inland, around 23°C on the coast and 17°C in the highest mountains.
On Saturday, the weather will be mainly cloudy, with rain and local thunderstorms. Hail is expected during thunderstorms, while some weather phenomena may be intense or prolonged.
A disturbance moving in from the north is expected to affect the island.
Temperatures recover by Monday
On Sunday, the weather will initially be mostly clear, before locally increased cloud develops. After midday, isolated showers or a thunderstorm are possible, mainly in the mountains and areas south of Troodos.
On Monday, locally increased cloud in the mountains may produce isolated afternoon showers.
Temperatures will drop noticeably on Saturday, falling below seasonal averages. They are expected to return to normal levels for the time of year by Monday.
