Temperatures hit 40°C again as yellow warning takes effect

Date:

A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting the area. Cyprus weather will be mainly clear today after local low cloud or thin fog clears from coastal and eastern areas.

In the afternoon, locally increased cloud over the mountains may bring isolated rain.

Winds will initially be variable and light at 3 Beaufort before gradually becoming mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. They may temporarily reach 4 to 5 Beaufort along southern and eastern coasts.

The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Yellow warning for high temperatures

Temperatures will reach around 40°C inland, 32°C on the west coast, 34°C on other coastal areas and 29°C in the highest mountains.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for high temperatures.

The warning will come into effect at 1.30pm and remain in force until 4pm.

Fog expected overnight

Tonight will be mainly clear, although locally increased low cloud will appear at times.

Thin fog or fog is expected to form locally later and during the early morning hours, particularly inland and in eastern areas.

Winds will become mainly downslope and light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will fall to around 23°C inland, 24°C on the coast and 22°C in the highest mountains.

Rain and thunderstorms expected Saturday

Thursday and Friday will be mainly clear, although local afternoon cloud over the mountains may bring isolated rain or thunderstorms.

On Saturday, a disturbance from the north is expected to temporarily affect the area, bringing local rain and isolated thunderstorms.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly until Friday and will remain above average for the time of year. On Saturday, however, temperatures will drop noticeably and fall below normal seasonal levels.
