Israel’s army conducted 480 airstrikes in Syria

Date:

The Israeli military announced on Tuesday evening that it had carried out nearly 480 airstrikes over the past 48 hours, targeting strategic military facilities and weapons systems in Syria following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad by a rebel coalition led by the group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the former Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda.

“In the last 48 hours, the military struck the majority of Syria’s strategic weapon stockpiles, preventing the possibility of them falling into the hands of terrorist elements,” the Israeli Armed Forces said in a statement. Targets included 15 warships, air defense missile systems, airports, and dozens of weapons production facilities in Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, and Palmyra.

Meanwhile, at least seven Palestinians lost their lives, and many others were injured when an Israeli airstrike hit a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to emergency service workers in the enclave speaking to Reuters in the early hours of Wednesday.

In Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, where the Israeli military launched a new large-scale offensive on October 6, emergency workers reported that an airstrike caused multiple civilian casualties. Many of the victims were said to be trapped under the rubble of a house.

The Israeli military has not commented on the reports of the two airstrikes at this stage.
