The Cyprus Police will intensify road traffic checks and awareness activities this weekend, focusing on the use of seat belts and child or booster seats by drivers and vehicle passengers.
The campaign will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 22-23, 2026.
During the checks, particular emphasis will be placed on whether drivers and passengers are wearing seat belts and whether children are travelling in appropriate child or booster seats.
Thousands of violations recorded
From January 1 to June 30 this year, police recorded 4,075 out-of-court complaints for drivers and passengers failing to wear seat belts during routine traffic checks.
A further 178 out-of-court complaints were issued for carrying passengers in an unsecured seat.
