Additional family visits for prisoners allowed during the holidays

Date:

In light of the Christmas and New Year holidays, and to strengthen family bonds, prisoners will be allowed one additional visit from close relatives (father, mother, spouse, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother) without the need for a visitation permit. Visitors will only need to present an ID card or passport, according to a statement by the Department of Prisons.

This additional visit may take place on Christmas Eve (24 December 2024), Christmas Day (25 December 2024), Boxing Day (26 December 2024), New Year’s Day (1 January 2025), or Epiphany (6 January 2025). Visiting hours will be from 08:00 to 13:00, with each visit lasting 30 minutes.

As in previous years, gifts will be provided to the children, grandchildren, and other family children of prisoners aged up to 16 years.

For further information regarding visit arrangements, including the number of visitors and scheduling, visitors are encouraged to call 22406257 or 22406258 to arrange a time.

The statement also noted that on the specified dates, no clothing will be accepted for any prisoner, except in cases involving new arrivals.
