Heavy weather is affecting parts of Cyprus on Tuesday afternoon, with a yellow warning currently in force.
The Meteorological Department said isolated strong thunderstorms are expected to affect mountainous areas, inland regions and possibly the east coast. Hail is possible during thunderstorms, while rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35mm per hour.
Forecast for Tuesday evening
Clouds developing during the afternoon are expected to bring local rain and isolated thunderstorms across the mountains, inland areas and possibly the east coast.
Hail is possible during thunderstorms.
Winds will be mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, initially light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming stronger at 5 Beaufort along windward coasts and during thunderstorms.
The sea will be slightly rough.
Tonight
The weather will be mainly clear, although locally increased cloud cover is expected over the western half of the island.
Thin local fog may form mainly during the early morning hours in the eastern half of Cyprus.
Temperatures will fall to around 21°C inland and on the south-western coast, 23°C on the remaining coasts and 15°C in the highest mountainous areas.
Wednesday forecast
Wednesday will begin mainly clear, but clouds developing during the afternoon are expected to produce isolated showers and thunderstorms in mountainous and inland areas.
Temperatures will reach around 35°C inland, 30°C on the western and south-western coasts, 32°C on other coastal areas and 26°C in the highest mountains.
Conditions improve from Thursday
The unstable air mass affecting the region is expected to move away from Thursday.
Weather will be mainly clear on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Temperatures will rise noticeably until Friday and remain at similar levels on Saturday. They will be above the seasonal average.
