€25,000 and illegal tobacco found in vehicle – 34-year-old arrested

Police found tobacco products and more than €25,000 in cash during a search of a 34-year-old man in Ayia Napa.

At around 11.50 pm on Sunday, members of the Motorised Immediate Action Unit (MMAD) stopped a vehicle for inspection on a road in Ayia Napa. The vehicle was being driven by the 34-year-old.

During the search, police found €21,760 in the vehicle and a further €3,795 in the driver’s possession.

Unmarked tobacco products seized

A further search found tobacco products in the vehicle that did not carry the required markings of the Republic of Cyprus.

Specifically, 30 packets of tobacco from various brands were found in the luggage compartment.

The 34-year-old was arrested for the offences of illegal possession of property and illegal possession of tobacco products.

He was placed under arrest to facilitate police investigations.

The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) is continuing its enquiries.
