Less than a month remains until one of Cyprus’ leading cultural events returns, bringing together thousands of opera lovers from across the island and abroad.
On 4 and 5 September 2026, the Medieval Castle Square in Pafos will once again be transformed into one of the Mediterranean’s most spectacular open-air opera venues for the 24th Pafos Aphrodite Festival.
This year’s festival will present Gaetano Donizetti’s celebrated comic opera L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love), one of the most beloved works in the international operatic repertoire.
A timeless story of love and humour
Since its premiere in 1832, L’Elisir d’Amore has captivated audiences worldwide with its blend of romance, humour and emotion.
The opera features the famous aria Una furtiva lagrima, regarded as one of the finest and most recognisable pieces in opera history.
The story follows Nemorino, a simple young man hopelessly in love with Adina, who believes that a magical love potion will help him win her heart. Through a series of comic twists, the opera ultimately celebrates sincerity and genuine love over illusion and miracles.
New production in a unique setting
The Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet “Alexander Spendiaryan”, in collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, will present a new contemporary staging that relocates the story to a symbolic post-apocalyptic world.
The production will feature acclaimed opera soloists and musicians from Armenia and abroad.
Set against the backdrop of the Medieval Castle of Pafos and the Mediterranean Sea, the performances promise a unique cultural experience that has helped establish the Pafos Aphrodite Festival as one of Cyprus’ premier cultural institutions.
Tickets on sale
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster Cyprus and at all ACS outlets.
A limited number of premium tickets (€150) remain available. These include access to the post-performance reception with food and drinks, as well as the festival’s commemorative programme.
With fewer than four weeks to go before the curtain rises, organisers are encouraging audiences to book early and experience one of Cyprus’ flagship cultural events.
