Cyprus faces another day of intense heat under yellow warning

Date:

Seasonal low pressure continues to affect the region, bringing hot weather across Cyprus on Thursday.

After early morning low cloud and patches of mist or fog clear, conditions will become mostly sunny, although periods of increased local cloud are expected.

Winds will initially blow from the southeast to southwest at light force 3 Beaufort, gradually turning southwesterly to northwesterly at force 3 to 4. Along the coast, winds may briefly strengthen to force 4 to 5 during the afternoon. The sea will be calm to slightly rough at first, becoming slightly rough on windward coasts later in the day.

The weather forecast predicts maximum temperatures of 40°C inland, 31°C along the southwest and west coasts, 34°C on the remaining coastal areas and 30°C in the higher mountains.

Yellow warning in effect

A yellow weather warning will be in force from 2:00 pm until 4:30 pm, with high temperatures expected to affect inland areas.

Warm night ahead

Tonight will remain mostly clear, although periods of low cloud are expected along the coast. Later and during the early morning hours, patches of mist or fog may form, particularly in eastern and inland areas.

Winds will become light and downslope at around force 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Overnight temperatures will fall to around 20°C inland, 22°C along the coast and 18°C in the higher mountains.

Weekend outlook

On Friday and throughout the weekend, the weather forecast calls for mainly fine conditions with occasional increased cloud.

On Friday, isolated showers are possible over the mountains.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Sunday and will remain close to, or slightly above, the seasonal average.
