Two men, aged 51 and 47, were arrested on Tuesday afternoon and remain in custody as police investigate a case involving the illegal possession of drugs.
The arrests were made by members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) following the collection and evaluation of information.
Cannabis found during vehicle checks
During an operation, YKAN officers stopped a vehicle travelling on a road in the Nicosia district, which was being driven by the 51-year-old.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 90 grams of dry plant material with a cannabis content, as well as a half-smoked hand-rolled cigarette containing cannabis.
The man was arrested on the spot and taken into custody.
Second suspect linked to investigation
As part of the same investigation, officers later stopped another vehicle in Nicosia driven by the 47-year-old.
During the search, police found three knives with pointed ends inside the vehicle. The man was arrested and a search of his residence followed.
Police said they seized:
- 2 kilograms and 320 grams of dry cannabis plant material
- A grinder containing cannabis residue
- €10,800 in cash
- Various other items collected for further examination
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Wednesday morning for the issuing of detention orders.
