After months of speculation over changes to the government, President Nikos Christodoulides has announced a long-awaited cabinet reshuffle, introducing new appointments across ministries, deputy ministries and commissioner posts.
The changes mark one of the most significant reorganisations of the administration since the government took office and are expected to trigger further political reactions.
New ministers appointed
Under the President’s decision, Christos Senekis has been appointed Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, succeeding Maria Panayiotou.
Evanthia Tsolaki will take over as Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, replacing Alexis Vafeades, while Tina Pavlou has been appointed Deputy Minister of Social Welfare.
Klea Papaellina has also been appointed Deputy Minister of Culture.
New commissioners and presidential office director
The President has also announced a series of appointments to commissioner roles.
Elias Myrianthous has been named Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, while Eirini Poyiatzi will serve as Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman).
Panayiotis Palates has been appointed Director of the Office of the President.
Swearing-in ceremony on Thursday
The appointments mean Maria Panayiotou, Alexis Vafeades, Vasiliki Kassianidou and Antonia Theodosiou will leave the government.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed ministers, deputy ministers and officials will take place at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, 6 August 2026, at 9:30 am.
