A drone attack killed a 13-year-old girl and injured two other children at a playground in Russia’s border region of Belgorod on Sunday, according to local authorities.
Acting regional governor Alexander Shuvaev said on Telegram that a Ukrainian drone struck an area near a children’s playground in the village of Printsevka, close to the border.
Emergency responders who arrived at the scene were unable to save the girl, who had suffered serious injuries, the official said. Two other girls, aged seven and nine, were taken to hospital, where they remain under medical care.
Kyiv has not commented
There has been no immediate reaction from Ukrainian authorities regarding the incident.
Russia’s children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova condemned what she described as another “inhuman terrorist act” by Kyiv.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Lvova-Belova and Russian President Vladimir Putin over alleged war crimes linked to the forced deportation of children from Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian forces. Moscow rejects the accusations.
Russia reports further drone strikes
Russian authorities said at least eight people were killed in Ukrainian strikes across Russia on Sunday, with attacks also reportedly damaging a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, the country’s largest online retailer.
The Russian Defence Ministry said it had intercepted and destroyed 635 Ukrainian drones on Sunday morning.
