A new weather warning has been issued by the Meteorological Service, with the yellow alert coming into effect on Friday, 31 July, from 2pm until 4:30pm.
The maximum temperature inland is expected to reach around 40°C, while temperatures will remain above seasonal averages in the coming days.
Clear skies and high temperatures
Seasonal low pressure is affecting the region, with mostly clear weather expected across Cyprus on Friday.
Winds will mainly be southwesterly to northwesterly, becoming variable at first, and will remain light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 40°C inland, around 33°C on the western and southwestern coasts, around 36°C on other coastal areas and 31°C in the higher mountains.
Cooler conditions overnight
Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear. Winds will gradually become mainly northwesterly to northeasterly and light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.
Temperatures will fall to around 24°C inland and along the coast, and around 19°C in the higher mountains.
Heat continues into next week
Mostly clear weather is expected on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain above average for the season.
