Date:

The child death trial begins on Friday, 31 July 2026, before the Paphos District Court, with a 37-year-old father facing a charge of causing death through a reckless, careless or dangerous act.

The case relates to the death of his three-year-old child.

Defendant released under strict conditions

Until the start of the trial, the accused had been released under strict restrictive conditions imposed by the court.

The 37-year-old was required to provide a €20,000 cash guarantee, be placed on the stop list, surrender all travel documents, report once a week for a signature at Paphos Central Police Station, avoid crossing checkpoints and provide police with his full residential address.

After complying with all conditions set by the court, the defendant was released pending today’s hearing.

Prosecution decision followed investigation

The Attorney General had previously instructed that criminal proceedings be launched against the 37-year-old following an assessment of all evidence gathered during the police investigation.

The trial is scheduled to begin at 10 am before the Paphos District Court.
