The fatal crash involving 20-year-old Kyriakos Antoniou from Agios Dometios is moving to court, one year after the road collision that claimed his life.
The 24-year-old driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash will appear before court on 24 September.
The charges relate to road traffic offences connected with causing a fatal road collision.
Collision occurred on Larnakos Avenue
The crash happened on 29 July 2025, when the vehicle driven by Antoniou was travelling along Larnakos Avenue from the University roundabout towards Nicosia.
His vehicle collided with a car driven by a 24-year-old man, who had a 23-year-old passenger.
The impact was severe, causing Antoniou’s vehicle to veer off the road before coming to a stop after hitting a traffic light pole.
Calls for safety measures on dangerous road
Former Aglantzia Deputy Mayor and current MP Andreas Constantinou has raised concerns over the safety of the specific road and registered the issue with the Parliament Transport Committee.
“We expect solutions from the competent Public Works Committee, the Police and the Nicosia Municipality’s traffic engineering department to reduce the speeds drivers develop at night on this avenue. We are proposing the installation of fixed cameras,” said DISY MP Andreas Constantinou.
Another fatal road collision involving a young person occurred on the same avenue several months ago, renewing concerns over road safety in the area.
