Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have announced that they struck three oil tankers attempting to pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz attack zone, according to Iranian state-linked news agency Tasnim.
The Guards’ naval forces said the vessels had ignored Iranian warnings and continued what they described as a “dangerous and illegal route”.
Tankers reportedly stopped after strikes
“Hours ago, three tankers that violated (Iranian) orders, ignored warnings and continued their dangerous and illegal course were hit and stopped,” the Guards’ navy said, according to Tasnim.
The statement did not provide further details on the identities of the vessels, the extent of any damage or the location of the incident.
Tensions rise in key oil route
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, with a significant share of global oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway.
The reported incident adds to growing tensions in the Gulf, following a series of military exchanges and threats involving Iran, the United States and regional actors.
The Strait of Hormuz attack claim comes amid heightened concerns over maritime security and the potential impact on international energy supplies.
