Hot conditions across Cyprus
A yellow weather warning is in force in Cyprus today from 1:30pm until 4:00pm, as the maximum temperature inland is expected to reach around 40°C.
The weather will be mostly clear throughout the day, although periods of locally increased cloud are expected, mainly over mountainous areas during the afternoon.
Temperatures will rise to around 40°C inland, about 32°C along the western and south-western coasts, around 36°C in the remaining coastal areas, and close to 30°C in the higher mountains.
Temperatures to remain above seasonal average
According to the Meteorological Service, seasonal low pressure continues to affect the region.
South-westerly to north-westerly winds will initially be light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, along coastal areas by the afternoon. The sea will be calm to slightly rough.
Tonight, conditions will remain mostly clear, although periods of low cloud are expected mainly along the coast. During the early morning hours, patchy mist or fog may form in some southern and eastern areas.
Temperatures overnight will fall to around 24°C inland and along the coast, and to around 21°C in the higher mountains.
Outlook
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will remain mainly fine, with occasional locally increased cloud.
Temperatures are expected to rise gradually until Wednesday, before remaining largely unchanged on Thursday. They will continue to stay above the seasonal average throughout the period.
