One in six Cypriots faced roaming issues while travelling in 2025

Date:

One in six Cypriots who travelled within the European Union, Liechtenstein, Iceland or Norway during 2025 experienced problems with roaming services, according to a new consumer survey by the Commissioner of Communications (OCECPR/GECETT).

The survey, conducted by Pulse Market Research in December 2025, gathered responses from 2,014 people who made a combined 3,869 trips across the European Economic Area (EEA) over the previous 12 months.

Travellers made an average of 1.9 trips, with Greece (75%) remaining the most popular destination, followed by Italy (17%), Austria (12%), France (10%) and Germany (10%).

Most travellers reported no connection issues

The findings show that 83% of respondents experienced no connection problems upon arriving at their destination, an improvement from 81% in 2024.

Among those who encountered issues, 16% said the problem was eventually resolved, either automatically or after contacting their mobile provider in Cyprus. Only 2% reported that they were unable to connect to a local mobile network throughout their trip.

The survey also found that:

  • 21% noticed slower mobile internet speeds than they normally experience in Cyprus.
  • 19% said their device connected to an older-generation network, such as switching from 5G to 4G.
  • 13% experienced difficulties accessing mobile data.
  • 8% reported poor call quality.
  • 6% were unable to make phone calls.
  • 5% experienced dropped calls or problems sending SMS messages.
  • 4% reported a complete loss of mobile service.

Quality generally rated positively

Overall, 77% of respondents said the quality of roaming services was similar to what they receive in Cyprus, while 5% rated it as better and 16% said it was worse.

The countries where travellers reported the most roaming problems were Latvia, Sweden, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.

The best user experience was reported by those travelling to Denmark, Estonia, Croatia, France and Greece.

Improvements compared with 2024

The Commissioner of Communications said the overall results represent an improvement compared with the previous year’s survey.

However, the findings also indicate there is still room to improve both network performance and the reliability of roaming connections.

The regulator said it will continue monitoring the quality of “Roaming Like Home” services and will consider issuing recommendations to mobile providers where appropriate under its regulatory powers.
