Unstable conditions remain part of the Cyprus weather forecast, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms expected mainly over the mountains and inland areas.
Temperatures will remain close to seasonal averages, while a slight rise and an improvement in weather conditions are expected from Saturday.
Rain and thunderstorms expected inland
Seasonal low pressure is affecting the region, while unstable weather conditions will continue to influence the island until Friday.
Today, following the dissipation of local low cloud and patches of mist, conditions across most of the island will become mainly clear with periods of increased cloud.
However, from around midday onwards, cloud developing over the mountains and inland areas is expected to bring isolated rain and thunderstorms. Hail cannot be ruled out during a thunderstorm.
Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually becoming moderate to strong and occasionally strong along the coast at 4 to 5 Beaufort.
The sea will generally be calm to slight, becoming temporarily slight along the western and southwestern coasts.
Temperatures will rise to around 36°C inland, 30°C along the western coast, 33°C along the remaining coastal areas and 24°C over the highest mountains.
Mist and fog possible overnight
Tonight, the weather will be mainly clear, although periods of increased low cloud are expected locally, particularly along the coast.
Later in the night and during the early morning hours, patches of mist or fog are expected to form, particularly in southern, eastern and inland areas.
Winds will gradually become light and downslope at 3 Beaufort. The sea will generally be calm to slight, although it will remain slight locally along the western coast.
Temperatures will fall to around 22°C inland, 23°C along the coast and 17°C over the highest mountains.
Conditions improve over the weekend
On Friday, most areas of the island will experience mainly clear conditions with periods of increased cloud.
From around midday onwards, cloud developing over the mountains and possibly inland is expected to bring isolated rain, while an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.
The Cyprus weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is generally mainly clear.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly on Friday and will remain close to seasonal averages. A slight rise is forecast on Saturday.
