Seasonal low pressure and atmospheric instability continue to affect Cyprus, bringing mainly fine conditions early in the day before showers and isolated thunderstorms develop from around midday.
Forecasters expect the unsettled pattern to persist over the coming days, with temperatures gradually edging higher while remaining close to seasonal averages.
Sunny start before afternoon instability
After any early patches of mist or fog clear, the day will become mostly sunny, although some areas may experience periods of increased low cloud.
By midday and early afternoon, developing cloud is expected to bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly over the mountains, inland areas and the north.
Southwesterly to northwesterly winds will be light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming locally strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort in southern coastal areas later in the day. The sea will be slight.
Temperatures will reach around 35°C inland, 31°C along the southeast and east coasts, around 30°C elsewhere on the coast, and 26°C in the higher mountains.
Mist and low cloud overnight
Tonight, periods of increased low cloud are expected, with patches of mist or fog forming in some areas.
Winds will become mainly northwesterly to northeasterly at around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slight.
Temperatures will fall to around 22°C inland, 23°C along the coast and 18°C in the higher mountains.
Unsettled afternoons to continue
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, intervals of increased cloud are expected, with isolated showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms developing around midday and during the early afternoon, mainly over the mountains and inland.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly by Thursday, remaining close to the seasonal average.
