Limassol officer is father of four, no violent past, financial issues examined

Authorities are investigating a serious incident in the shooting case in Limassol after a 55-year-old police officer shot his wife before to taking his own life on Tuesday morning.

According to new information, the 46-year-old woman who is hospitalised and intubated in an extremely critical condition is the second wife of the 55-year-old police officer.

The perpetrator is a father of four children, two of whom he had with his first wife and two with the victim. One is an adult and, according to reports, is studying abroad in Cyprus, while the second child is their underage daughter.

Incident occurred during morning hours

The shooting is believed to have taken place around 06:35 in the morning outside the Lyceum of Agios Spyridonas, inside the victim’s vehicle.

The officer reportedly used his service weapon, which had been issued earlier that morning at a police station.

According to information under examination, the officer left his workplace briefly, informing colleagues he would return shortly before travelling to the location where the incident occurred.

Police examine background and circumstances

The Cyprus Police confirmed that all possible circumstances are being investigated, with no confirmed conclusions at this stage.

Authorities stated that there is currently no recorded disciplinary or complaint history involving the officer, although investigations remain ongoing.

Detectives from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department are carrying out on-site examinations and collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events.

Focus on possible motives

Investigators are also examining whether financial or personal disputes within the family may have contributed to the incident, based on preliminary information.

Police have not confirmed these reports, stressing that the investigation is at an early stage.

The incident has caused widespread concern in the community, with authorities continuing their efforts to clarify the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
