Turkey National Security Council meets today in Ankara under the presidency of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with a wide-ranging agenda covering major regional and international developments.
According to CNN Türk, the Turkey National Security Council will assess conflicts and diplomatic processes involving the United States, Iran, Israel, Ukraine, and key security dynamics across the Eastern Mediterranean.
Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean on agenda
The Turkey National Security Council will also examine developments in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean, including the current situation in Cyprus.
Officials are expected to review possible measures aimed at maintaining stability in the region during the summer period, as tensions and geopolitical competition continue to shape maritime and security policies.
Ukraine war and Black Sea security
The ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its fourth year, will feature prominently in discussions.
The National Security Council will evaluate Ankara’s mediation efforts and address maritime security concerns in the Black Sea, particularly following reported attacks on Turkish-linked vessels.
Gaza and wider Middle East crisis
The situation in Gaza is also included in the agenda, with discussions focusing on diplomatic efforts to sustain the ceasefire and increase humanitarian aid deliveries.
The council is expected to review developments involving Israel’s regional actions in Syria and Lebanon, as well as broader implications for Middle East stability.
NATO summit preparations
Security preparations for the upcoming NATO summit, scheduled for early July in Ankara, will also be assessed.
The National Security Council will reportedly examine logistical and security arrangements as Turkey prepares to host allied leaders.
“Turkey without terrorism” process
Another key item is the government’s so-called “Turkey without terrorism” initiative.
The council will review the status of the process involving the disarmament of the PKK, verification of weapons handovers, field reports, and planned legislative steps expected to be submitted to the Turkish Parliament.
