Attempt to smuggle items into prison with drone

An attempt involving the illegal delivery of items into Cyprus Central Prisons was detected and prevented on Thursday morning through the facility’s anti-drone system.

According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, the system identified a drone carrying a package intended for delivery inside the prison complex.

Drone and package seized

Authorities said prison services immediately confiscated both the drone and the package after detecting the activity.

Police were informed and took possession of the items as part of further investigations into the incident.

Authorities highlight system effectiveness

According to the Ministry, the latest incident confirms the effectiveness of the anti-drone technology currently operating at the prison facility.

Officials said the system serves as an important tool for strengthening security measures and preventing the illegal introduction of prohibited items, including mobile phones, drugs and other banned materials into Central Prisons.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
