Police and the Department of Labour Inspection are investigating the circumstances under which a 49-year-old man was seriously injured in a workplace accident that occurred in Nicosia on Saturday. The man remains in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital.
According to authorities, the incident took place at around 5:30 p.m. in the Strovolos area, where the 49-year-old was carrying out repair work on an air-conditioning compressor located outside a building.
Under circumstances that are still under investigation, the compressor exploded, causing serious injuries to the worker.
An ambulance crew transported the injured man to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. He remains intubated and in critical condition.
The scene was examined by members of the Police, the Fire Service and an officer from the Department of Labour Inspection.
The investigation into the causes of the accident is being conducted by the Nicosia Central Police Station in cooperation with the Department of Labour Inspection.
