Rain and storms expected this afternoon
A weak low-pressure system and an unstable air mass will continue to affect the region until Monday, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Cyprus weather forecast indicates that after the dissipation of local low cloud and patchy mist or fog, conditions will become mainly fine. However, periods of increased cloud cover are expected to develop, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms around midday and early afternoon.
The weather is expected to affect mainly mountainous areas and parts of the interior, while hail is possible in any thunderstorms that develop.
Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming temporarily strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort in windward coastal areas during the afternoon. The sea will be slight.
Temperatures will rise to 33C inland, 28C on the west coast, around 30C along the remaining coastal areas and 24C in the higher mountains.
Fog possible overnight
Tonight, conditions will remain mostly clear, although periods of increased low cloud are expected.
Patchy mist or fog may form in some areas overnight.
Winds will remain mainly southwesterly to northwesterly at around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slight.
Temperatures will fall to 19C inland, around 20C along the coast and 15C in the higher mountains.
Unsettled weather to continue until Monday
The Cyprus weather forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday points to continued periods of increased cloud cover, which are expected to produce isolated showers or thunderstorms after midday.
The areas most likely to be affected remain the mountains and inland regions.
Hail remains possible in any thunderstorms, while temperatures are not expected to change significantly and will remain close to seasonal averages through Monday.
