Warning email over alleged threat against Annita Demetriou

Date:

The Democratic Rally (DISY) has confirmed that it received an email containing a message referring to a possible threat against the life of its President, Annita Demetriou.

Party spokesperson Onoufrios Koullas confirmed the development, stating that the email was received by the party and immediately taken seriously.

Content of the email

According to a social media post referenced in relation to the incident, the email reportedly read: “Hello. I have very important information for the safety of the life of Annita Demetriou. I know that an assassination attempt is being prepared against her; they want to eliminate her.”

Koullas expressed concern over the content of the message and said he hoped the claim would not prove to be true.

Police informed immediately

Koullas said the email was received on the afternoon of 3 June. Following its receipt, the Presidential Guard was informed, and police officers subsequently visited DISY headquarters to collect information.

Authorities have since begun examining the incident as part of standard security procedures.

Questions over leak

The DISY spokesperson also raised concerns about how the information was leaked, stressing that an internal police investigation should be carried out.

“What surprises us is how this was leaked,” he said, adding that the matter should be fully investigated.

Police are expected to continue assessing the credibility of the threat as part of their ongoing inquiries.
