Mostly clear weather; temperatures to rise from Sunday

Date:

A temperature rise is expected in Cyprus over the coming days, with temperatures forecast to move slightly above seasonal averages from Sunday.

Despite the possibility of isolated showers or a thunderstorm in mountainous areas on Saturday afternoon, weather conditions will remain largely summery, with sunshine dominating most regions and no significant changes expected through the start of next week.

Mostly sunny conditions today

According to the Meteorological Service, a weak high-pressure system is affecting the area.

Today, the weather will be mainly clear across the island. Winds will initially be variable before becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. During the afternoon, winds may strengthen locally to 5 Beaufort in windward coastal areas.

The sea will be slight to a little rough.

Temperatures will reach 32°C inland, 26°C along the west coast, around 28°C in the remaining coastal areas, and 24°C in the higher mountains.

Clear skies overnight

Tonight, conditions will remain mostly clear.

Winds will blow mainly northwesterly to northeasterly at around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slight.

Temperatures will fall to 15°C inland, around 17°C on the coast, and 13°C in the higher mountainous areas.

Chance of showers in the mountains

On Saturday, locally increased afternoon cloud cover is expected to bring isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly over mountainous regions.

Sunday will be mostly clear across the island, while on Monday, there remains a slight possibility of an isolated afternoon shower in the mountains.

Temperature rise above seasonal averages

The temperature rise forecast for Sunday will push values slightly above the average climatic levels for this time of year.

Apart from the limited chance of mountain showers, weather conditions are expected to remain stable, sunny and warm through the beginning of the new week.
