24-year-old arrested over vehicle arson in Nicosia

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man as part of an investigation into a suspected arson case in Nicosia, involving the destruction of a vehicle.

According to investigators, the fire broke out at around 2.40 am on 26 May 2026. The vehicle was parked outside the home of its 34-year-old owner in the Nicosia district.

The blaze completely destroyed the vehicle.

Fire believed to be deliberate

Examinations carried out at the scene indicated that the fire was caused by a malicious act.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police secured a court warrant and arrested the 24-year-old suspect on Wednesday afternoon.

Suspect to appear in court

The suspect is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Thursday, where police will seek a detention order to assist with further inquiries.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Nicosia is continuing its investigation into the case.
