Weather outlook: Temperatures set to rise on Sunday

Date:

Cyprus weather will remain mainly settled over the coming days as a weak high-pressure system continues to affect the region, according to the Meteorological Service.

Tonight, conditions will remain mostly clear, although periods of increased low cloud are expected, mainly along the eastern coast. Temperatures will fall to around 15°C inland and along the northern coast, 17°C in the remaining coastal areas and 12°C in the higher mountains.

Temperatures near seasonal averages

On Thursday, the weather will remain mostly sunny with some localised cloud developing, particularly after midday.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 31°C inland, 28°C along the southern and eastern coasts, 26°C on the western and northern coasts and 23°C in the higher mountain areas.

Forecasters said temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Saturday, remaining close to average climatic values for the season. A slight increase is expected on Sunday.

Stronger winds expected during the day

Winds on Thursday will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest. They will begin as light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort, before strengthening gradually by midday to moderate to strong, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort and occasionally becoming strong.

The sea will be calm to slightly rough in the morning before becoming generally slightly rough later in the day.

By evening, winds will weaken and become downslope and locally variable at around 3 Beaufort. Sea conditions will remain generally calm to slightly rough, although western and northern coastal areas may stay slightly rough.

Chance of isolated showers in mountains

From Friday through Sunday, periods of increased cloud are expected across the island.

Meteorologists said the cloud cover may produce isolated showers over mountainous areas during the afternoon hours, particularly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Overall, Cyprus weather conditions are expected to remain stable and pleasant, with temperatures continuing close to seasonal norms.
