Cyprus has started the gradual distribution of water-saving equipment to households and premises as part of a national effort to promote responsible water management, according to the Water Development Department.
The water saving initiative is being implemented on a nationwide basis, beginning in the Paphos district.
Authorities said the programme aims to help reduce water consumption while supporting long-term sustainability of the island’s water resources.
Free kits for households across the island
Around 75,000 free packages will be distributed in the coming months, each containing four tap aerators and two shower flow reducers.
The distribution will take place gradually over the next months, ensuring coverage across all districts of Cyprus.
The rollout has already begun earlier in 2026 for businesses and professional premises with high water usage.
Millions of devices to be provided
Under the scheme, a total of 2 million tap aerators and 1 million shower flow reducers will be made available to consumers.
Officials said the water saving programme in Cyprus is designed to reach both households and commercial users across the island.
Up to 30% reduction in water use
According to the Water Development Department, the equipment can reduce water consumption by up to 30% without affecting user comfort or noticeably changing water pressure.
Officials stressed that small behavioural and technical changes can contribute significantly to national water conservation efforts.
The department added that citizens are encouraged to take part in the initiative as part of a shared responsibility to protect Cyprus’s water reserves.
