Tourist arrivals fall 28% in April as war impact grows

Tourist arrivals fell by 27.6% in April 2026, according to new data published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

A total of 303,031 tourists visited Cyprus in April 2026 compared with 418,730 during the same month last year. The decline follows a 30.7% drop recorded in March.

UK remains largest tourism market

Despite the decline, the United Kingdom remained the biggest source of Cyprus tourist arrivals, accounting for 39.2% of all visitors, or 118,742 arrivals.

Poland followed with 25,371 arrivals, Germany with 24,178, Israel with 15,997 and Greece with 14,255.

The steepest annual decline was recorded in arrivals from Israel, which dropped by 74.8% compared with April 2025.

Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom fell by 21.8%, while Germany recorded a decline of 18.4%. Arrivals from Greece and Poland also decreased by 12.8% and 12.5% respectively.

Travel purposes shifted

According to the data, 73% of visitors travelled to Cyprus for holidays, while 17.7% visited friends or relatives and 9.2% travelled for business purposes.

In April 2025, 80.3% of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, suggesting a notable shift in travel patterns this year.

For the January to April 2026 period, tourist arrivals in Cyprus totalled 710,370, compared with 865,326 during the same period in 2025, representing a decline of 17.9%.

Cyprus residents travelled slightly less

Meanwhile, travel by Cyprus residents abroad recorded a slight decrease of 0.3% in April 2026, with 164,357 trips compared with 164,844 in April 2025.

Most residents returning to Cyprus travelled from Greece, followed by the United Kingdom, Italy and Romania.
