The Municipality of Larnaca has issued a scam warning after fraudsters allegedly created a fake Facebook account using the name and photograph of Mayor Andreas Vyras.
According to the municipality, unknown individuals are using the account to contact citizens while pretending to be the mayor.
Citizens urged not to share information
Authorities said the fake profile is being used to request money and personal information from members of the public.
As part of the scam warning, the municipality urged citizens not to respond to such messages or disclose personal, banking or financial details.
The municipality also encouraged the public to report and block fraudulent social media accounts linked to the scam.
Officials stressed that necessary actions are already being taken to address the issue and investigate the fake account.
