Russia reports mass interceptions of Ukrainian drones

Date:

Russian armed forces intercepted and destroyed at least 3,124 Ukrainian drones over the past week, according to the state news agency RIA, citing data from the Russian Ministry of Defence.

The report highlights a sharp escalation in Ukraine drone attacks, with most drones reportedly downed on 13 May and 17 May – 572 and 1,054 respectively – mainly over European parts of Russia.

Deadly strikes reported near Moscow

Local authorities said at least four people were killed, including three in the Moscow region, during what officials described as the largest Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian capital in more than a year.

The strikes mark one of the most significant recent escalations in Ukraine drone attacks targeting Russian territory, according to regional officials.

Wider impact across Russian regions

Most of the intercepted drones were reportedly shot down over the western and central parts of Russia, reflecting continued cross-border aerial activity in the ongoing conflict.

Officials did not provide further details on infrastructure damage, but confirmed multiple air defence engagements throughout the week.

Rising aerial warfare pressure

The latest figures underline the growing scale of Ukraine drone attacks and Russia’s expanded air defence response as the war continues to intensify across multiple fronts.

Authorities in Moscow have not yet issued additional operational assessments beyond the initial casualty report.
