Focus on affordable and sustainable housing
Affordable, sustainable and social housing, alongside emerging trends in the property market, are at the centre of an Informal ministerial meeting for Housing taking place today in Nicosia under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The summit is chaired by Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou and brings together EU ministers responsible for housing, European institutional representatives and key stakeholders from the housing sector.
Housing pressures across Europe
According to the Presidency Secretariat of the Cyprus EU Presidency, the meeting provides a platform for open dialogue on housing challenges across member states.
These include rising housing costs, structural shortages and demographic pressures that are placing increasing strain on housing systems across the European Union.
The EU housing summit aims to promote cooperation and contribute to a more inclusive and resilient housing landscape across member states.
The Cyprus Presidency stressed its commitment to placing affordable, sustainable and decent housing high on the European agenda.
The EU housing summit reflects efforts to strengthen coordination between member states at a time when access to housing has become a growing social and economic issue across Europe.
Programme of the meeting
The informal meeting is being held at the Filoxenia Conference Centre.
Minister Ioannou will welcome ministers and heads of delegations between 9:00am and 9:15am, before the official proceedings begin.
A press conference is scheduled for 3:00pm.
