Police secure arrest warrant
Police identified the suspect driver involved in a shocking Larnaca motorway incident in which a 65-year-old man was dragged on a vehicle for nearly two kilometres following a road collision.
According to authorities, investigators evaluated witness testimony and identified the suspect. Speaking to Cyprus state television, police spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos said officers secured an arrest warrant against the driver.
Police are also attempting to locate the vehicle involved in the incident.
Driver allegedly fled after crash
The incident happened last Wednesday on the road between the Rizoelia and Kalo Chorio roundabouts in Larnaca.
According to reports, a silver Mazda Demio rental vehicle crashed into the rear of another car at around 12:40pm.
After the collision, the 65-year-old driver approached the second vehicle to exchange details. However, the other driver allegedly refused to cooperate and repeatedly stated that he “had to leave”.
Victim carried on windscreen
The victim reportedly noticed a police patrol vehicle nearby and attempted to seek assistance.
When the suspect realised police were approaching, he allegedly accelerated suddenly in an attempt to flee the scene.
The 65-year-old attempted to stop the vehicle and ended up on the windscreen as the car moved onto the motorway. Police launched a pursuit while the victim clung to the vehicle for around two kilometres before falling onto the road near the Kalo Chorio roundabout.
Authorities said the victim suffered minor injuries, including bruises and abrasions.
He was later transported to Larnaca General Hospital where he remained in the accident and emergency department for six hours.
The suspect driver fled the scene following the incident.
