Livestock farmer arrested after attacking veterinary officer

Date:

Incident during veterinary checks

An arrest was recorded on Friday afternoon after a livestock farmer was arrested by police following an alleged attack on a veterinary services officer during routine inspections.

The incident occurred at a livestock farm in the Kofinou area, where officers from the Veterinary Services were carrying out sample collection as part of measures linked to foot-and-mouth disease monitoring.

According to police, during the inspection process, the farm owner allegedly attacked one of the veterinary officers, kicking him on the leg.

Police officers who were already present at the scene, accompanying the veterinary team, immediately intervened and arrested the livestock farmer.

The injured officer received assistance following the incident, while authorities secured the area and continued procedures related to the health inspections.

Police investigation ongoing

The case is now under investigation as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the assault on the public officer during an official duty operation.

Police have not released further details at this stage, while the Veterinary Services continue their scheduled inspections under the ongoing animal health measures.

Authorities stress that inspections are essential for disease prevention and biosecurity, particularly in the context of livestock health monitoring programmes.
