Details emerge about filming in Mykonos

Mykonos appears set to be the next stop for Netflix’s hit series “Emily in Paris”, following Paris and Rome. According to reports, the production is preparing to film on the Cycladic island for the new season of the series in May.

The Mayor of Mykonos, Christos Veronis, spoke to tlife and Christos Koutras, revealing that the municipal council has officially approved the filming, which is scheduled to take place from 18 to 26 May. Scenes are expected to be shot at well-known locations on the island, including Little Venice, the Windmills and Panormos.

At the same time, the municipality intends to facilitate the production wherever necessary, considering that such a well-known series could offer significant exposure to Mykonos and Greece more broadly.

“I do not particularly watch Emily in Paris, but it is a well-known and famous series and just two hours ago its approval also passed through the municipal council. The approval was sent to us by the company supporting them, so that we could approve filming in areas within the town, outside the town, in Little Venice, Panormos and so on.

“We also decided, as a municipal council, to provide every possible assistance and support, because Mykonos is in the tourist season, it may not be peak season, but it is the tourist season, and therefore the municipality must help such famous productions, just as the island of Mykonos is known worldwide, and provide any support and facilitation requested.”

He also said that some members of the production team are already on the island, although he does not know when the series’ stars will arrive.

In addition, an open casting call was held at the Grypareio Cultural Centre, with several residents taking part, suggesting that locals may also appear in the series.

As he explained, a destination with international recognition such as Mykonos needs constant promotion and support, which is why he described as particularly positive the fact that a global production has chosen the island for filming.

“It is mainly the promotion of Mykonos to millions of viewers, which is now happening on its own, free of charge, because of this production.

“And this production, when it was filmed in Paris, showed that it treated Paris, its cafés, streets, archives and archaeological sites not simply as a backdrop, but as something happening within the place and within life. So they approached it differently, and that is something very positive for us as well.”

Concluding, he noted that similar shoots have been taking place in Mykonos for years and that residents are familiar with such situations. Even if certain spots or roads need to be closed temporarily, he believes the overall result can only be positive for the island and its image abroad.

The production has already begun the casting process through a post on Instagram, seeking six Greek women to play Emily’s new friends in Greece. They will be by her side and spend time with her.

The requirements and qualifications? Simple enough: they must be beautiful, elegant, charming and have a strong presence in front of the camera.

According to reports, the fee could reach up to €1,000 for participation in the filming — an attractive amount that has already generated huge interest. As we understand, turnout has already been strong, with several young and beautiful women from the island visiting the production and discussing all the details.
