A drone attack in the Dzhankoi community in Crimea killed five people, according to the head of the local Russian-installed authorities, Sergey Aksyonov.
The announcement was made shortly after midnight, with authorities attributing the strike to Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles.
UAV strike reported amid escalation
The attack occurred late on Tuesday evening in the northern part of Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.
Local authorities said the incident involved drone systems used in an aerial strike on the area, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict.
Context of wider hostilities
The Crimea drone attack came as Ukraine reported more than 20 deaths in Russian bombardments.
At the same time, Ukrainian authorities were expected to implement a unilateral ceasefire at midnight, although hostilities on both sides continued.
Rising tensions in the region
Crimea remains a frequent flashpoint in the war, with both sides reporting regular strikes involving drones, missiles and artillery.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over escalating cross-border attacks and civilian casualties.
