Cypriot turns 100 with a card from King Charles III

Date:

A century of life and resilience

A Cypriot woman has celebrated her 100th birthday, marking a life filled with resilience, family devotion, and community contribution.

Katina, who reached the milestone this week, received a congratulatory card from King Charles III, adding a special touch to the occasion.

From Rizokarpaso to the UK

According to Parikiaki, Katina was born on April 29, 1926, in Rizokarpaso. In 1947, she moved to the United Kingdom in search of a better future.

With remarkable determination, she taught herself English by listening to the radio and reading signs and posters on the streets.

Family at the heart of her journey

In the UK, she built a family life, raising two daughters- Anna, now 70, and Eleana, who passed away in 2005. Today, she is surrounded by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Those close to her describe her as a joyful and kind-hearted woman, always ready to help others.

Strong ties to her community

Katina remained actively involved in the wider Cypriot community and was a member of the Rizokarpaso Association, maintaining close ties to her homeland.

Celebrations filled with emotion

Now residing in a care home in Finchley, she continues to bring joy and optimism to those around her.

Her 100th birthday was celebrated with an emotional gathering in the garden of her residence, attended by family and friends. She enjoyed the festive buffet, admired her birthday cake, and expressed great happiness at being surrounded by loved ones- especially after receiving the royal birthday card.
