Trump envoy suggests Iran replaced by Italy at World Cup

Date:

Speculation over a possible change in the World Cup has emerged after reports suggested that Italy could replace Iran, prompting global discussion in football and political circles.

According to a Financial Times report, the idea was allegedly proposed by a US special envoy, but there has been no official confirmation from FIFA or other involved parties.

No official confirmation

The reported scenario remains unverified, with neither the White House, FIFA, nor the Italian Football Federation commenting on the claims.

Iran’s football federation has stated that the national team continues its preparations normally and expects to participate in the tournament.

FIFA holds final decision

FIFA has maintained that the tournament schedule will proceed as planned. Any changes involving replacement teams would fall under FIFA’s exclusive authority.

Reports suggest that, in the unlikely event of withdrawal, other national teams could be considered, but no decisions have been made.

Tournament preparations continue

The World Cup, set to begin on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico, is moving forward with all official preparations in place.

Iran has already secured qualification and remains listed as a participating team unless an official change is announced.

In Cyprus, the matches of the World Cup will be broadcast by Sigma TV, ensuring local coverage of the tournament regardless of the final participation lists.
