Traffic arrangements due to informal EU summit

Date:

The Cyprus Police are implementing EU security measures across several regions of the island ahead of the Informal Meeting of EU Heads of State, taking place on April 23–24, 2026, under the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The EU security measures include traffic arrangements, temporary road closures and restrictions in key areas across Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta districts.

Authorities say the arrangements aim to ensure smooth operations during high-level diplomatic movements and related events.

Road closures across key locations

As part of the EU security measures, rolling and short-term road closures will take place on April 23 and 24.

In Nicosia, access to the area around the Conference Centre will be restricted from 07:30 to 18:00 on April 24, including sections of Aglantzia Avenue from the Aluminium Tower traffic lights to the Akademia roundabout.

In Larnaca and surrounding highway networks, intermittent closures are expected on the Nicosia–Larnaca and Larnaca–Agia Napa motorways during both days.

Agia Napa Marina restrictions

Further EU security measures will affect the coastal area of Agia Napa Marina on the afternoon of April 23, between 16:00 and 23:00.

Part of Agia Thekla Avenue and surrounding roads will remain closed during this period.

Maritime restrictions will also apply following a NAVTEX issued by the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, designating a temporary no-navigation zone around the marina for security purposes.

Drone ban across Cyprus

As part of wider EU security measures, the Ministry of Transport has issued a nationwide order banning the use of drones from April 23 to 24.

The restriction applies across the entire territory of Cyprus for security reasons linked to the high-level meeting.

Public urged to follow instructions

The Cyprus Police have called on the public to remain patient and comply fully with traffic diversions, closures and instructions issued by officers on duty throughout the implementation of the EU security measures.

Authorities emphasise that the measures are temporary and necessary to ensure the safe conduct of the EU leaders’ meeting.
