Milk support programme expands to over 6,000 beneficiaries

Free milk for families and vulnerable groups

A milk support programme providing free milk to thousands of beneficiaries has expanded significantly, now reaching more than 6,000 people each week.

Launched as a social initiative aimed at supporting families with young children, the programme initially focused on ensuring that no child aged 2 to 10 would be deprived of milk as a basic daily necessity. Less than three months later, the initiative has broadened its scope to include beneficiaries of all ages.

24,000 litres of milk distributed monthly

Under the expanded programme, titled “No One Without Milk”, a total of 24,000 litres of milk are distributed each month. Beneficiaries include individuals with disabilities receiving minimum guaranteed income, single-parent families, and young children.

The milk support programme is implemented through cooperation between the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare and the Benefits Management Service, ensuring targeted assistance to those most in need.

Smart social economy in action

The initiative forms part of a broader corporate social responsibility strategy, aiming to ensure access to essential nutritional goods for vulnerable groups.

Through collaboration with state authorities, the programme represents a practical example of the “Smart Social Economy” model. This approach strengthens the welfare system through partnerships with the private sector, promoting transparency and effective allocation of resources.

AI platform identifies beneficiaries

A unified artificial intelligence platform is used to manage applications and assess eligibility for social benefits. Authorities identify eligible families and issue vouchers, which can be redeemed at selected retail points across the country.

The system stands out for its innovation, with Cyprus being the first EU country to utilise artificial intelligence in this way for managing welfare applications.

Each week, beneficiaries receive free milk through vouchers distributed by the Deputy Ministry and the Benefits Management Service.

Long-term commitment to social support

The milk support programme reflects a long-standing commitment to social responsibility, focusing on dignity, health, and everyday wellbeing.

Since 2013, the company behind the initiative has implemented a wide range of social impact actions, including support for children and ongoing contributions to sports through partnerships with national Olympic and Paralympic committees.

The initiative highlights the essential role of milk not only as a product, but as a symbol of care and basic daily support for every household.
