Social Insurance Services alerts public to scam emails

Date:

The Social Insurance Services have warned the public about a fake email circulating that falsely claims to come from their offices, aiming to extract money from citizens’ bank accounts.

Fake emails request a €10 “processing fee”

According to the announcement, the fraudulent message informs recipients that a benefit payment has been approved and asks for bank account details to supposedly cover a €10 administrative fee. Social Insurance emphasises that it never requests citizens to pay any fee for application approvals.

Official emails end with @mlsi.gov.cy

The Services stressed that all official email communications with citizens come exclusively from addresses ending in “@mlsi.gov.cy.” Any email outside this domain should be treated with caution.

Citizens urged to delete suspicious messages

Social Insurance advises that if citizens receive such a message, they should not click on any links and delete the email immediately to avoid falling victim to fraud.
